Where the Wild Things Are

In British Columbia, you can slip into the magnificent natural world of whales, bears, sea lions, and coastal forests aboard a 70-foot sailing vessel. For over three decades, Bluewater Adventures has specialized in eco-tours in this region, promoting ecology and responsible ecotourism through a variety of programs. Experienced crews include biologists, naturalists, and expert educators who reveal the secrets of Orca and humpback whales, porpoises, seals, sea lions, and the famed Kermode bear, whose sparkling, snow-colored coats have earned them the name of Spirit Bears. During daily shore excursions, guests are led to rainforests and First Nations villages, including several Kwakwaka’wakw villages to observe totem poles, pictographs, and the remnants of the aptly named “long houses” where they once dwelt. Bluewater’s two sailing ships, Island Roamer and Island Odyssey, also traverse the Inside Passage, Gulf Islands, and the Queen Charlotte Islands—known as the Haida Gwaii to the indigenous people here.
